1. Balliol College Gardens

Centre of town (Broad St) and open over lunch time (unlike other nearby colleges Jesus and Exeter). Nominal entry fee. Lovely gardens to sit in with your picnic or buy from the Buttery in the Garden Quod. balliol.ox.ac.uk

2. Alpha Bar

3. Koto

A little corner of Japan in North Parade.Japanese curries and ramen. Don’t miss the Lunch Set for under £10. kotorestaurant.co.uk

4. Oli’s Thai

Fresh, delicious Thai food on Magdalen Road. Hard to get a table unless you book well in advance. Seats at the bar available for walk-ins. olisthai.com

5. TVC

The Varsity Club on the High Street. Gorgeous shabby-chic interiors plus the famous roof terrace. Light bites and TVC Classics of home made Burger and Flat Iron Chicken. Kitchen open from 12pm for lunch Weds-Sun. tvcoxford.co.uk
